Where are they now? Checking in on our Longleaf Restoration Project

At GP Cellulose, we are committed to sustainable forestry and are working to protect forests with high conservation value (including endangered forests and special areas) and enhance wildlife habitat in the areas in which we operate. GP Cellulose has a long history of working with others in the forestry and environmental community, such as National Wild Turkey Federation, The Nature Conservancy and The Longleaf Alliance, to support wildlife and longleaf pine habitat enhancement projects.

In early 2021, GP Cellulose, in partnership with one of our key customers, joined The Longleaf Alliance in planting 60,000 longleaf pine seedlings at Torreya State Park in northwest Florida which was devastated by Hurricane Michael in 2018. This restoration project sought to help educate local communities about the benefits of the forest and provide essential ecosystem benefits such as protecting water quality and wildlife habitat through the establishment of a keystone tree species. As of Summer 2023, over 90% of the trees have successfully grown to around two and a half feet high and are on their way to providing these benefits in this area.

This investment in conservation projects and partnerships with these organizations align with our values and demonstrates our commitment to responsible and sustainable forestry. Watch this video to see how GP Cellulose continues to work on conservation projects across the southeast.
